Captain Chuck Harman

Captain Chuck Harman is currently serving the pilots of American Airlines as a Check Airman on the Boeing 737.   Prior to assuming this position, Captain Chuck worked for American in their Technical Flight Operations Department. Captain Harman was the the Fleet Captain for the Boeing 757767, Flight Operations Deicing Manager, Fleet Captain and Technical Program Manager for the Boeing 737 and Lead Check Airman on the Boeing 757 and 767.  In his twenty-year airline career he has flown Boeing 727’s, 737’s, 747’s, 757’s, 767’s and the Bae146.  Besides his Airline Transport Pilot certificate, Captain Harman also holds airman certificates for Air Traffic Controller, Aircraft Dispatcher, Flight Instructor, Ground Instructor and Airframe and Powerplant Mechanic and has over 18,000 flying hours.    

Prior to American Airlines, Captain Harman worked for the Federal Aviation Administration as both an Air Traffic Controller at the Oakland Center and as an Aviation Safety Inspector responsible for Accident and Incident investigations, Regulatory Enforcement and Airman Certification. 

Captain Harman has consulted on aircraft accidents and provided expert witness testimony, authored an aviation training website and has been invited to speak at a variety of different aviation and children’s education forums.

Captain Harman is a United States Navy Veteran and proudly served in Vietnam from 1968 to 1970.

Captain Harman is also the author and illustrator of the children’s book series, The adventures of Artie the Airplane and his friends.  When he isn’t busy teaching and evaluating the pilots of American Airlines, Captain Chuck, as the kids know him, has been busy visiting with schoolchildren around the country sharing Artie the Airplane and flying with them.  Last year, Captain Harman visited with over 20,000 children.

Captain Chuck has appeared in numerous newspapers, on radio and television shows and was recently named a Chevy Trucks Lone Star Hero for his contributions to the community.
